Marko Komonko, violin

Marko Komonko was born in Lviv in 1975, into the family of musicians. When he was 6 his father started to teach him to play the violin. Afterwards he was taught by such known pedagogues of the Central Music School attached to the Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory as Svetlana Bezrodnaya, Zoya Makhtina and Maya Hlezarova. Within the international charity program “New Names” he actively performed in European countries, as well as in Russia, Ukraine, Japan and others. His first significant achievement was the award at the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians (1992). He got the prize and received a scholarship from the Yankelevich Foundation “as one of the most talented Yuri Yankelevich’ students”, is written in Yankelevich book “Pedagogical Heritage”, 1993.

After graduation he continued his studies in the UK at the London Royal College of Music studying under Professor Felix Andrievsky (1994 – 1999) and later in Germany (Cologne) under an outstanding contemporary violinist Victor Tretyakov. He regularly performed, won various awards, the most important of which was the award of the most prestigious contemporary competition – the Georg Kulenkampff International Violin Competition (Cologne, 1993) where he became the second prize winner.

While living in Europe violinist often visited his native city Lviv, performed with the Symphony Orchestra (conducted by R. Symovych, J. Yuzyuk, P. Sondetskis, T. Kucher and others) and Lviv Virtuosos led by S. Burko. For a long time he was invited as a soloist to Kyiv Philharmonic (conducted by V. Diadiura, R. Coffman).

Since 2004 Marko Komonko has lived in South Korea. He’s worked as a concertmaster of various orchestras, including Seoul Symphony Orchestra that is one of the eight best orchestras in the world. Also he has performed as a soloist, ensemblist and has been recorded for radio and television. His repertoire includes works by composers of different epochs and styles, including Ukrainian composers as well.

Since 2014 Mark Komonko has been working as a soloist of Lviv Philharmonic.
